About the Course
Course Overview
This course will focus on developing visual communication strategies to effectively learn basic communication skills in Auslan, whilst developing basic understanding of language as a structure and enhancing intercultural understanding, particularly basic code of cultural behaviour.
Goal
To enable learners to participate in an exchange related to school classroom-related vocabulary and phrases/sentences.

Where to meet
Auslan Skills Level 4 held at the
Dulwich Hall, Brighton Primary School and Klemzig Primary School
When to meet
Course dates will be from 1st week of June to 1st week of July 2024
2 hours a week for 5 weeks
6pm until 8 pm

Skills and Strategies
- Development of skills in using some aspects of Auslan grammar
- Continuation of fingerspelling alphabet
- Continuous development of productive and receptive skills
- Extension of language and conversation practice
- Development of skills focussing on Deaf cultural behaviours, (e.i., getting attention)
Elements of Language
Grammar and Gesture
- Spatial and depicting verbs
- Pointing signs and possessive signs
- Topic and comment structure
- a few sentence types, particularly imperatives and exclamatives
Vocabulary and Sign structure
- signs and phrases regarding food
- signs and phrases regarding family and relatives
- signs and phrases regarding colour
